How to create an Apple ID | Apple Support

To use an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or one of Apple’s online services, you must have an Apple ID. It’s simple! How to create an Apple ID is covered here.

Previously we have written an article to explain what is an Apple ID. Fortunately, creating an Apple ID is simple and cost-free. We cover how to create an Apple ID in this article.

How to create a new Apple ID

Go to Apple’s website.

Visit this page on Apple’s website and click Create Your Apple ID to create an Apple ID.

Enter your details and an email address to use to verify the account

You must include your birthday in addition to your name and nationality because it will affect the services that are available for your account. Children under the age of 13 cannot create an Apple ID (at least not in some regions).

You must enter a legitimate email address to be used as your Apple ID in the field where it currently stated: name@example.com. If you don’t already have an email account, this complicates matters. The address you use will serve as the username for your new Apple ID; each time you wish to log in with your Apple ID, you must enter both the address and the password you select.

This email needs to be one you will have access to for the near future, so avoid using a work email address if you might change employment. Perversely, it cannot be for an existing email account that is offered by Apple or be an address that was previously used for an Apple ID.

Don’t be tempted to provide fake information because a confirmation email will be sent to the address, and you must click the link in it for your Apple ID to be activated.

To link the account, you must also input a mobile number. It will be necessary to use this email and phone number as part of the two-factor authentication system to secure the account.

After entering all of this data, you will need to type the characters shown in the image to demonstrate that you are not a machine. Click Continue after that.

Even more challenging is that you must enter a second, different email address later on in the application form in order to be recovered, such as to reset your password. You might offer the email address of your spouse, for example, however again there’s a requirement to confirm by clicking a link in an email sent to the address, as this address will be used extremely rarely and this time the address can be one already used for an Apple ID.

Verify your Apple ID via the email address and phone number you provided

The verification code can now be obtained by checking the email address you used earlier. Type that in.

After that, you will also need to confirm the phone number you provided. Fill out the provided code. You now have a new Apple ID.

Just be careful not to forget your Apple ID password right away; if you do, it can be quite difficult to reset your Apple ID.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you should first erase the Apple ID from any old devices you plan to give away or sell.

How to secure your Apple ID

When you create an Apple ID, two-step verification is also created (sometimes called two-factor authentication, or TFA).

If you do this, you won’t be able to use your Apple ID to make purchases on new hardware or Mac computers, to log into iCloud, or to edit your account information without entering a one-time code that Apple will provide you. When using Apple hardware and in other situations when you’ve already verified your information, the code is typically not necessary.

Two-step verification is designed to make it less probable that a hacker will also gain physical access to your phone or iOS device in order to obtain the authentication code, even if they manage to obtain your Apple ID and password information from somewhere (perhaps a Trojan virus or phoney website). They won’t be able to accomplish much without it.

Visit the Apple ID website here, but this time pick Account Security, and log in when prompted to set up or modify your two-step verification.

Your Apple ID account’s phone number may need to be removed or modified. If you don’t have access to the mobile number you used to set up your account, you can also add another reliable mobile here to help you unlock it. However, you must still confirm the change with the original phone number.

In order to continue, click the Password and Security tab on the left and respond to the security questions. Afterward, click Get Started next to Two-Step Verification.

What to do if you think someone has compromised your Apple ID

It is possible that your Apple ID has been compromised if it is locked or disabled, however two-factor authentication makes that improbable. We outline the procedures you must take to unlock an Apple ID that has been locked or disabled separately if you were the one who mistyped the password.

Change your password right away if you believe your account has been compromised. To do this, simply enter the email address linked to your Apple ID, and Apple will send you an email with a password-changing link.

If you get a notification on a trusted device indicating someone has logged into your account and provides a rough idea of the location where the login occurred, you could worry that your account has been hacked. If the location is far from where you reside, it can be worrying even if you have just just tried to log on yourself. Unfortunately, Apple location notifications often have a very long range. Don’t be concerned if you were only trying to log on.
