How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch | Apple Support

It is easy to keep your iPhone or iPad up to date with the latest features and security enhancements. We will walk through how to update your device wirelessly and how to update it using your computer.

Before you start, make sure you back up your device, plug it into power, and connect to Wi-Fi. If you are using a Mac or Windows computer, you will need a compatible cable.

Update your device wirelessly

Let us start with updating your device wirelessly.

When there is an update available for your device, you might get a pop-up on screen, which you can tap to install the update. Otherwise, you can open Settings, tap General, and tap Software Update.

In iOS 13.6 or later, automatic updates are on by default. Your device will update automatically overnight while it is charging, although some updates may need to be installed manually.

Tp update your device now, just tap Install. Enter your passcode, and follow the prompts. If you see a message saying that you need more space on your device for a wireless update, you can delete content manually or update using your computer.

Update using your computer

To update your iPhone or iPad using your computer, make sure your device is plugged into your computer and that your computer is connected to the internet.

If you are using Mac with a macOS Catalina or later, open the Finder. If you are using a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or a Windows computer, open iTunes.

You may see a message about updating your device when you connect it to your computer. Otherwise, locate your device in the sidebar, and make sure you are in the General tab.

In some versions of iTunes, this may appear as Settings. Next, click Update. Then click Download and Update and follow the prompts. Now you can keep your iPhone or iPad up to date and enjoy all the latest features.
