This guide provides a comprehensive overview of all the modifications in the iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 updates.

Security Key

Users can add a third-party security key to their Apple ID account, which will be required for authentication when logging into a new device or otherwise accessing an Apple ID.

The Security Key is intended to replace the verification codes sent to Apple devices when logging into another device, which is the company’s standard method of authentication. According to Apple, physical security keys provide effective protection against phishing and unauthorised account access.

Security Keys can be configured on iOS/iPadOS 16.3 devices by going to Apple ID > Security Keys and following the instructions. The Yubikey and other FIDO Certified security keys are supported by the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Advanced Data Protection for iCloud (Global Rollout)

Apple’s highest level of cloud data security is provided by Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, which employs end-to-end encryption. The feature was first made available to users in the United States with the release of iOS 16.2, but iOS 16.3 makes it available to all users worldwide for the first time.Apple’s highest level of cloud data security is provided by Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, which employs end-to-end encryption. The feature was first made available to users in the United States with the release of iOS 16.2, but iOS 16.3 makes it available to all users worldwide for the first time.

Apple stores encryption keys for some iCloud data types on its servers by default in order for users to recover their data if they lose access to their Apple ID account. When a user enables Advanced Data Protection, the encryption keys are deleted from Apple’s servers and stored solely on the user’s devices, preventing Apple, law enforcement, or anyone else from accessing the data, even if iCloud servers are compromised.

Unity Wallpaper

Apple has released a new Unity wallpaper to celebrate Black History Month, which takes place in February.

HomePod Support

iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 now support the second-generation HomePod, which was released last week. The HomePod 2 is the same size as the original HomePod, but with a new touch interface, humidity and temperature sensing, Thread connectivity, an Ul chip, and more.

Emergency SOS Changes

To avoid accidental emergency calls, Emergency SOS has been updated. Calls can still be placed by holding down the side button and either the up or down volume button, but the buttons must now be released before the call can be placed.

Previously, simply pressing the buttons could activate Emergency SOS.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Display Fix

A problem that could cause horizontal lines to appear on the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s display when it first wakes up has been resolved, and the lines should no longer appear.

Bug Fixes

iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 fix a number of bugs, including Freeform, the Lock Screen, and Siri issues.

  • This update resolves an issue in Freeform where some drawing strokes made with the Apple Pencil or your finger did not appear on shared boards.
