Typography design can be found in a variety of places. Do you ever pay attention to the line spacing on the ingredient list on the back of a bag of crackers? Or the weights of the letters (a.k.a. how thick or thin they are) on street name signs, or even the shape of the numerals on a price tag? These aren’t necessarily your go-to sources of inspiration, but they’re a part of life.
Everywhere we look, we’re continuously surrounded by letters. All of these resources provide us with unique viewpoints and ideas, as well as examples of how typography may be employed in a variety of ways.
A Brief History about Typography
In a nutshell, typographic design is the art of composing a message in a readable and appealing manner. It’s an important part of the design process. Typography does not require the designer to create their own letterforms, but rather to work with existing typefaces. This method necessitates the designer making a series of decisions, such as picking the appropriate typeface, point size, changing kerning and line spacing, and creating a logical layout.
Laptops, desktops, and even phones may be used to accomplish this fast and easily. Thanks to technological advancements, new generations of designers are challenging typography and its norms every day, imagining letters in ways we couldn’t have imagined just a few years ago.
